SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE: THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES, 1994)

“1791 was the year it happened. I was 24, younger than you are now. But times were different then, I was a man at that age: the master of a large plantation just south of New Orleans. I had lost my wife in childbirth, and she and the infant had been buried less than half a year. I would have been happy to join them. I couldn't bear the pain of their loss. I longed to be released from it. I wanted to lose it all... my wealth, my estate, my sanity. Most of all, I longed for death. I know that now. I invited it. A release from the pain of living. My invitation was open to anyone. To the whore at my side. To the pimp that followed. But it was a vampire that accepted it.” – Louis

One can only love or hate the big screen adaptation of Anne Rice’s biggest triumph in her world of fang lit, Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles. Acclaimed Director Neil Jordan helmed the film with big stars the likes of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. But one little orphaned girl steals the show, Kirsten Dunst as Claudia. Guns N' Roses on the other hand, nailed their version of the rock classic Sympathy For The Devil.

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
sung by: Guns N’ Roses

Please allow me to introduce myself

I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for long, long year
Stolen many a man's soul and faith
I was around when Jesus Christ had
His moment of doubt and painI made damn sore that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Please to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I stuck around St.Petersburg
When I saw it was time for a change
I killed the tzar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank, held a general's rank
When the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank

Please to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I watched with glee while your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades for the Gods they made
I shouted out "who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all it was you and me
So let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I lay traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reach Bombay

Please to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
Please to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me, have some courtesy
Have some sympathy and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste

Please to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game...
