THE LONELY GUY (THE LONELY GUY, 1984)

"Don't worry. Lonely guys don't stay lonely forever." - Iris

Steve Martin wonderfully captures the essence of a lonely man in the 1984 film, The Lonely Guy. He plays Larry Hubbard, a greeting card writer who finds her girlfriend in his own bed with another man. Unable to do something about it, he then find ways to look for someone to love with varying degree of success. It's a bittersweet film. Max Carl sung the theme and was heard at the end of the film.

THE LONELY GUY
sung by: Max Carl

There’s one lonely girl
Saturday night, nothin’ to do
And there’s one lonely guy
All by himself at a table for two

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be so sweet
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

In a world like today
So many times even lovers are strangers
They pass but look away
Keeping their hearts far out of danger

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be complete
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

In a world where so many people
Need love so desperately
Don’t make it you wonder why
There’s a lonely guy?

One lonely guy
All by himself at a table for two
And there’s one lonely girl
Saturday night, with nothin’ to do

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be so sweet
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

Don’t pass by
One lonely guy
