DREAMING OF YOU (SELENA, 1997)

Jennifer Lopez takes the lead in the biopic based in the life and murder of famous singer Selena. One of the film's popular theme Dreaming Of You became one of the most played songs on the radio.

DREAMING OF YOU
sung by: Selena

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I wish on a star that somewhere you are
Thinking of me too

'Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me

Wonder if you ever see me
And I wonder if you know I'm there
If you looked in my eyes
Would you see what's inside
Would you even care?

I just wanna hold you close
But so far all I have are dreams of you
So I wait for the day
And the courage to say how much I love you
Yes I do!

I'll be dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me

Corazón
I can't stop dreaming of you
No puedo dejar de pensar en ti
I can't stop dreaming
Cómo te necesito
I can't stop dreaming of you
Mi amor, cómo te extraño

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I still can't believe
That you came up to me and said "I love you"
I love you too!

Now I'm dreaming with you tonight
Till tomorrow and for all of my life
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming with you endlessly

Dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room
I'll be dreaming of you tonight
Endlessly
And I'll be holding you tight
Dreaming...with you...tonight

DREAM AWAY (THE PAGEMASTER, 1994)

"All the adventure your imagination can hold." - tagline

This lesser known animation in the '90's has provided a better known theme, Dream Away. Sung by one of the great vocals, Kenneth Edmonds more popularly known as Babyface and Lisa Stansfield. The film is a merging of animation and live action. The boy lead was voiced by then-famous kid, Macaulay Culkin.

DREAM AWAY
sung by: Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds
& Lisa Stansfield

When this world
The real life world you're living in
Just gets too much for you to take
When you find
Too many troubles on your mind
And feel just like there's no escape

And it seems your heart's forgotten how to believe
Turn a page in your soul
There's a place you can go
Close your eyes and let your heart fly free

Dream away, dream away
Let imagination light your way
Take you as far as your heart can see
Dream away, dream away
To a place where hope is shining
Find your silver lining
Everything you need is just a dream away

Remember when
A dream could take you anywhere
Just a wish anything could be
When the farthest star was one more star you could reach
Take a look in your heart
'Cause that's where dreams are where it starts
Anything is real if you just believe

All it takes is faith to make your dreams come true
And somewhere in this world there'll be somebody
To share your dreams with you

IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE (PRETTY WOMAN, 1990)

"So what happens after he climbs up and rescues her?"
- Edward Lewis
"She rescues him right back."
- Vivian Ward

Pretty Woman, a very modern retelling of the time-tested Cinderella tale cast Julia Roberts as Vivian, the hooker with a heart of gold. Julia plays the role to a T and earned her a best actress nomination in the Oscars and won in the Golden Globe. The theme It Must Have Been Love aptly heard during one of the movie's wistful scenes. The then-duo Roxette provide the vocals.

IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE
sung by: Roxette

It must have been love
But it’s over now
Play a whisper on my pillow
Leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely, a sound of silence
In the bedroom and all round
Touch me now
I’ll close my eyes
And dream away

It must have been love, but it’s over now
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow
It must have been love, but it’s over now
From the moment we touched till the time had run out

Make believin’ we’re together
That I’m sheltered by your heart
But in and outside I turn to water
Like a teardrop in your palm
And it’s hard
Winter’s day
I dream away

It must have been love, but it’s over now
It was all that I wanted now I’m livin’ without
It must have been love, but It’s over now
It’s where the water flows, It’s where the wind blows

Oh (must have been love)
(but it’s over now)
(But it’s over now) Now
(It must have been love)
(Must have been love)
(But it’s over now)
(but it’s over now)
Now….

MY ROMANCE (JUMBO, 1962)

Doris Day sung the theme from the movie Jumbo about a circus act on the verge of closure due to gambling. Jumbo in the title is the Wonder Circus' main attraction, an elephant. The song My Romance has been covered by many artists.

MY ROMANCE
sung by: Doris Day

My romance
Doesn’t have to have a moon in the sky
My romance
Doesn’t need a blue lagoon standing by
No month of May, no twinkling stars
No hide away, no soft guitars

My romance
Doesn’t need a castle rising in Spain
Nor a dance
To a constantly surprising refrain
Wide awake, I can make my most
Fantastic dreams come true
My romance

Doesn’t need a thing but you

PEOPLE (FUNNY GIRL, 1968)

"Hello, gorgeous!" - Fanny Brice

One of Barbara Streisand's signature song came from the 1968 film, Funny Girl, one of her celebrated movies. The song simply titled 'People' has often been associated not only with the Diva herself but has been rendered numerous times by other artists. Of course, nothing beats the original voice that made the song memorable.

PEOPLE
sung by: Barbara Streisand

People, people who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
We’re children needing other children
And yet letting our grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children

Lovers are very special people
They’re the luckiest people in the world
With one person, one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you’re whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people

People, people who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world

With one person, one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you’re whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People, people who need people

Are the luckiest people in the world

THE LONELY GUY (THE LONELY GUY, 1984)

"Don't worry. Lonely guys don't stay lonely forever." - Iris

Steve Martin wonderfully captures the essence of a lonely man in the 1984 film, The Lonely Guy. He plays Larry Hubbard, a greeting card writer who finds her girlfriend in his own bed with another man. Unable to do something about it, he then find ways to look for someone to love with varying degree of success. It's a bittersweet film. Max Carl sung the theme and was heard at the end of the film.

THE LONELY GUY
sung by: Max Carl

There’s one lonely girl
Saturday night, nothin’ to do
And there’s one lonely guy
All by himself at a table for two

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be so sweet
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

In a world like today
So many times even lovers are strangers
They pass but look away
Keeping their hearts far out of danger

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be complete
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

In a world where so many people
Need love so desperately
Don’t make it you wonder why
There’s a lonely guy?

One lonely guy
All by himself at a table for two
And there’s one lonely girl
Saturday night, with nothin’ to do

And it’s sad ‘cause one lonely guy
Might change the world for one lonely girl
And life would be so sweet
If only she could meet one lonely guy
(One lonely, one lonely, one lonely guy)

Don’t pass by
One lonely guy

YOUR HEART WILL LEAD YOU HOME (THE TIGGER MOVIE, 2000)

Missing out yet another post due to poor connection to think I'm using a broadband. Shame. Anyway, I'm posting more than one theme to update. First is from the animated film, The Tigger Movie. One of Winnie The Pooh's pal gets his own movie and it's your usual kid-friendly fare. Tigger, the titular lead is on a quest to find his family. One of the ever-dependable singers, Kenny Loggins sung the theme and I personally find the song better than the film itself. The theme has a very laidback feel and all the more important is the message.

YOUR HEART WILL LEAD YOU HOME
sung by: Kenny Loggins

Sunny days and starry nights
And lazy afternoons
You’re countin’ castles in the clouds
And hummin’ little tunes

But somehow, right before your eyes
The summer fades away
Everything is different
And everything has changed

If you feel lost and on your own
And far from home
You’re never alone, you know
Just think of your friends
The ones who care
They all will be waiting there
With love to share
And your heart will lead you home

Funny how a photograph
Can take you back in time
To places and embraces
That you thought you’d left behind

They’re trying to remind you
That you’re not the only one
That no one is an island
When all is said and one

If you feel lost and on your own
And far from home
You’re never alone, you know
Just think of your friends
The ones who care
They all will be waiting there
With love to share
And your heart will lead you home

There’ll come a day
When you’re losing your way
And you won’t know where you belong
They say that “Home is where the heart is”
So follow your heart
And know that you can’t go wrong

If you feel lost and on your own
And far from home
You’re never alone, you know
Just think of your friends
The ones who care
They all will be waiting there
With love to share
And your heart will lead you home

If you feel lost and on your own
And far from home
You’re never alone, you know
Just think of your friends
The ones who care
They all will be waiting there
With love to share
And your heart will lead you
Where you belong
I know your heart will lead you home
