I'LL BE SEEING YOU (I'LL BE SEEING YOU, 1944)

My last post for today is from the movie I'll Be Seeing You. It's about an unlikely meeting of two tortured souls. One, a woman named Mary (Ginger Rogers) serving prison from an accidental killing but given a considerable leave for the Holidays and the other, a man named Sergeant Zachary Morgan (Joseph Cotton) who suffers from battle fatigue. They met, and as the movie saying goes, they both fall in love but Mary's past kept haunting her. The song, very melodic and soulful, has been used many times in various occasions. Proof that the song is universal.

I'LL BE SEEING YOU
sung by: Louanne Hogan

I’ll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through

In that small cafe
The park across the way
The children’s carousel
The chestnut trees
The wishing well

I’ll be seeing you
In every lovely summer’s day
In every thing that’s light and gay
I’ll always think of you that way

I’ll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new
I’ll be looking at the moon
But I’ll be seeing you

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I’ll be seeing you
In every lovely summer’s day
In every thing that’s light and gay
I’ll always think of you that way

I’ll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new
I’ll be looking at the moon
But I’ll be seeing you

WIND BENEATH MY WINGS (BEACHES, 1988)

Undeniably, one of the greatest tearjerker of all time came from the 1988 movie Beaches. It's about the friendship between two women that outlasted everything, including death. They met as young girls in the beach and spent their last days together in the beach as well. Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey are very convincing as CC Bloom and Hillary. No doubt, guys will cry in this movie, too.

WIND BENEATH MY WINGS
sung by: Bette Midler

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that’s your way
You always walked a step behind

So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strain
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain

Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I’ve got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you

Did you ever know that you’re my hero?
You’re everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

Did I ever tell you you’re my hero?
You’re everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

Oh, the wind beneath my wings
You, you, you, you are
The wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away
You let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you
The wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you
The wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

I BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME (THE PREACHER'S WIFE, 1996)

"They needed help. What they got was a miracle." - tagline

Whitney Houston, who had her share of storms in life starred in the remake of the 1947 film The Bishop's Wife aptly called The Preacher's Wife in 1996. She plays a choir singer who had marital problems among other things...then came an angel who may or may not be the one they needed help for. It's not her original recording (the RnB group The Four Tops that is) but Ms. Houston manages to have her own sound with the song.

I BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME
sung by: Whitney Houston

I believe in you and me, I believe that we will be
In love eternally, As far as I can see
You will always be the one for me, ooh

I believe in dreams again, I believe that love will never end
And like a river finds the sea
I was lost, now I’m free, I believe in you and me

I will never leave your side, I will never hurt your pride
And all that you turn out, I will always be around
Just to be right where you are, My love, My love

I will never leave you out, I will always let you in
To places no one’s ever been, Deep inside
Can’t you see, I believe in you and me

Maybe I’m a fool, To feel the way I do
But I would play the fool the forever
Just to be with you forever

I believe in miracles, Love’s a miracle
And baby you’re a dream come true
I was lost, now I’m free, I believe in you and me

I was lost, now I’m free
I believe in you and me

PLEASE REMEMBER (COYOTE UGLY, 2000)

Making up for the lost four days of posting, here's my second theme for today. The song is from the movie Coyote Ugly shown in 2000. The theme was sung by LeAnn Rimes who done other movie themes as well.

PLEASE REMEMBER
sung by: LeAnn Rimes

Time, sometimes the time just slips away
And your left with yesterday
Left with the memories
I, I’ll always think of you and smile
And be happy for the time
I had you with me
Though we go our separate ways
I won’t forget so don’t forget
The memories we made

Please remember, please remember
I was there for you
And you were there for me
Please remember, our time together
The time was yours and mine
While we were wild and free
Please remember, please remember me

Goodbye, there’s just no sadder word to say
And it’s sad to walk away
With just the memories
Who’s to know what might have been
We’ll leave behind a life and time
I’ll never know again

Please remember, please remember
I was there for you
And you were there for me
And remember, please remember me

Please remember, please remember
I was there for you
And you were there for me
Please remember, our time together
The time was yours and mine
While we were wild and free
Please remember, please remember me
And how we laugh and how we smile
And how this heart was yours and mine
And how a dream was out of reach
I stood by you, you stood by me
We took each day and made it shine
We wrote our names across the sky
We ride so fast, we ride so free
And I knew that you had me

Please remember, please remember

SOMEWHERE (WEST SIDE STORY, 1961)

The onslaught of typhoon Ondoy last Saturday left us all Filipinos wan and helpless. No one has been able to at least sense what will be ahead of us. We are left shaken, even for those who were not 'actual victims'. The good thing is, above all, that we Filipinos can do great things among ourselves. The Bayanihan spirit has never been more evident in the last five days.

Here's hoping a tune from the 1961 movie-musical West Side Story will somehow managed to forget for just a second what was left of us last September 26. The song is Somewhere sung by Marni Nixon with Natalie Wood lipsynching.

SOMEWHERE
sung by: Marni Nixon

There’s a place for us
Somewhere a place for us
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere

There’s a time for us
Some day a time for us
Time together with time spare
Time to learn, time to care
Some day!

Somewhere
We’ll find a new way of living
We’ll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere . . .

There’s a place for us
A time and place for us
Hold my hand and we’re halfway there
Hold my hand and I’ll take you there

Somehow
Some day
Somewhere!

This, too, shall pass.

SOMEWHERE OUT THERE (AN AMERICAN TAIL, 1986)

Before Ratatouille, there was a mouse from the other side of animation. His name was Fievel and he starred in An American Tail, on a journey on his own to find a better place for his family. Balladeer James Ingram and Linda Ronstadt sung the wonderful pop version theme of Somewhere Out There. The song were nominated for best original song in the Oscars and Golden Globe and won in the Grammys.

SOMEWHERE OUT THERE
sung by: James Ingram & Linda Ronstadt

Somewhere out there
Beneath the pale moonlight
Someone’s thinkin’ of me
And loving me to night

Somewhere out there
Someone’s saying a prayer
That we’ll find one another
In that big somewhere out there

And even though I know
How very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be
Wishin’ on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts
To sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we’re sleeping
Underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there
If love can see us through
Then we’ll be together
Somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

And even though I know
How very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be
Wishin’ on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts
To sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we’re sleeping
Underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there
If love can see us through
Then we’ll be together
Somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

I'LL REMEMBER (WITH HONORS, 1994)

"Know why you hate me so much Jeffrey?
Because I look the way you feel."
- Simon Wilder

One of the better made '90's film for the family is With Honors. The story centers around an unlikely connection between a Harvard student (Brendan Fraser) along with his co-students and a homeless man (Joe Pesci). A film with great impact and message, Madonna for the nth time lends her voice to sung the theme, I'll Remember.

I'LL REMEMBER
sung by: Madonna

Say goodbye not knowing when
The truth in my whole life began
Say goodbye not knowing how
To cry you taught me but

And I’ll remember
The strength that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember the way that you saved me
I’ll remember

Inside, I was a child
The good that man of broken wing
Outside, I’ll look for a way
To teach my heart to sing

And I’ll remember
The love that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember
The way that you changed me
I’ll remember

I learn to let go of the delusion
That we can possess
I learn to let go at travelin’ stillness
And I’ll remember
Happiness
I’ll remember love

(INSTRUMENTAL)

And I’ll remember
The love that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember
The way that you changed me

I’ll remember
I’ll remember
I’ll remember
Now, I’ll never be afraid to cry
Now I finally have the reason why
I’ll remember
I’ll remember

SO CLOSE (ENCHANTED, 2007)

"Giselle! I've been dreaming of a-" Prince Edward

A charming Disney Film, Enchanted works because of inspired performances especially Amy Adams as Giselle and the film's themes. The ballad So Close is aptly played during the party scene that leads to Giselle's saving her unlikely Prince Charming, Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey). Wonderfully sung by Jon McLaughlin, the theme earned an Oscar nomination as well as other songs from the film.

SO CLOSE
sung by: Jon Mclaughlin

You’re in my arms
And all the world is calm
The music playing on for only two
So close together
And when I’m with you
So close to feeling alive

A life goes by
Romantic dreams will stop
So I bid mine goodbye and never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know
All that I wanted to hold you
So close

So close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this was not pretend
And now you’re beside me and look how far we’ve come
So far we are so close

(INSTRUMENTAL)

How could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?
We’re so close
To reaching that famous happy end
And almost believing this was not pretend
Let’s go on dreaming for we know we are
So close
So close

And still so far

THE NEXT TIME (SUMMER HOLIDAY, 1963)

One of the songs I remember listening during my childhood was from the movie Summer Holiday. Cliff Richard starred in the said movie and sung numerous songs one of which is The Next Time. A very laidback theme from an otherwise upbeat movie. A perfect song on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

THE NEXT TIME
sung by: Clff Richard

They say I’ll love again someday
A true love will come my way the next time
But after you there’ll be never be
A next time for me

They say that I’ll find happiness in someone
Else warm caress the next time
I’ll soon forget your kiss
And heartaches such as this will
Just be ancient history

They say that I’m a fool to weep
That I won’t go on losing sleep the next time
And someone else will mend the heart
You’ve broken in two

But how can I fall in love the next time
When I’m still so much in love with you
When I’m still so much in love with you

FALLING SLOWLY (ONCE, 2006)

I personally loved the theme featured in today’s post. Once, an unlikely musical about Guy and Girl who met through love of music. The tune is deeply affecting and the score superb. The film richly deserved an Oscar for best original song.

FALLING SLOWLY
sung by: Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglova

I don’t know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can’t react
And games that never amount
To more than they’re meant
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You’ve made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can’t go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I’m painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It’s time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You’ve made it now

Oohhh…yeah….
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You’ve made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I’ll sing along

THE MORNING AFTER (THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, 1972)

"You see, Mr. Scott? In the water I'm a very skinny lady."
- Mrs. Belle Rosen

Aside from the sinking of the Poseidon itself drowning Oscar winner veterans, the film is best known by the very hopeful song The Morning After sung by Maureen McGovern which was dubbed by Renee Armand in the film. A memorable '70's disaster flick. And an even more memorable movie theme. The song won the best original song in the Oscars.

THE MORNING AFTER
sung by: Maureen McGovern
Renee Armand

There’s got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Let’s keep on looking for the light.

Oh, can’t you see the morning after
It’s waiting right outside the storm
Why don’t we cross the bridge together
And find a place that’s safe and warm.

It’s not too late, We should be giving
Only with love can we climb, It’s not too late
Not while we’re living, Let’s put our hands out in time.

There’s got to be a morning after
We’re moving closer to the shore
I know we’ll be there by tomorrow
And we’ll escape the darkness
We won’t be searching anymore.

There’s got to be a morning after...

IS IT OKAY IF I CALL YOU MINE (FAME, 1980)

"Never being happy isn't the same as being unhappy. Is it?"
- Montgomery McNeil

Director Alan Parker's take on the lives and ambitions of students at New York City's High School of the Performing Arts is well represented on the movie Fame. All the songs used in the film are well-thought out such as the one sung by Paul McCrane, Is It Okay If I Call You Mine. A bittersweet ballad.

IS IT OKAY IF I CALL YOU MINE
sung by: Paul McCrane

Is it okay if I call you mine?
Just for a time
And I will be just fine
If I know that you know
That I’m wanting, needing your love, ooh…

If I asks you, is it alright
If I asks you to hold me tight
Through a cold and dark night

‘Cause there may be a cloudy day in sight
And I need to let you know
That I might be needing your love, ooh…

And what I’m trying to say isn’t really new
It’s just the things that happen to me
When I’m reminded of you

Like when I hear your name
Or see a place that you’ve been
Or see a picture of your grin
Or pass a house that you’ve been in
One time or another
It sets of something in me
I can’t explain
Oh, I can’t wait to see you again
Oh, babe I love your love, ooh…

LOVE STORY (WHERE DO I BEGIN?) (LOVE STORY, 1970)

“Love means never having to say you're sorry.”

One of the most celebrated movie was Arthur Hiller’s Love Story. It was based on an equally successful bestseller authored by Erich Segal. The premise is very simple but the novel and its movie adaptation along with its lead stars Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw made the film work. It also has to do with the very sentimental theme Where Do I Begin recorded by Andy Williams later and covered by other artists as well. Timeless.

LOVE STORY
(WHERE DO I BEGIN)
sung by: Andy Williams

Where do I begin
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love she brings to me
Where do I start

With her first hello
She gave new meaning to this empty world of mine
There’d never be another love, another time
She came into my life and made the living fine
She fills my heart

She fills my heart with very special things
With angels’ songs , with wild imaginings
She fills my soul with so much love
That anywhere I go I’m never lonely
With her around, who could be lonely
I reach for her hand-it’s always there

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now but this much I can say
I know I’ll need her till the stars all burn away
And she’ll be there

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now but this much I can say
I know I’ll need her till the stars all burn away
And she’ll be there

UNCHAINED MELODY (GHOST, 1990)

“Ditto.” – Sam, Molly

Today's post will feature in memory of Patrick Swayze's recent passing, one of his two most popular movies (the other being Dirty Dancing) as well as the one of most well-loved romantic drama from Hollywood. The song Unchained Melody sung by The Righteous Brothers were not written for the movie Ghost but it became an integral part of the movie itself particularly the unabashedly romantic clay-molding scene.

UNCHAINED MELODY
sung by: The Righteous Brothers

Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love, I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home; wait for me

Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love, I need your love
God speed your love to me

SOMETHING NEW IN MY LIFE (MICKI + MAUDE, 1984)

In Hollywood, infidelity can be viewed as funny and romantic such as the case of the movie Micki + Maude. Dudley Moore plays Rob Salinger, a tv reporter who juggles two relationships, even causing the two women of his life Micki and Maude (Micki Salinger and Amy Irving) to give birth at the same time at the same hospital. Stephen Bishop, one of the best known artists in the '80's sang the theme Something New In My Life. It ws heard mainly at the opening credits showing different images drawn by a child.

SOMETHING NEW IN MY LIFE
sung by: Stephen Bishop

I guess I wanted something new in my life
I new key to fit a new door
To wake and see a diff’rent view in my life
The one I have been waitin’ for

Dreams, like everyone I’ve had a few in my life
Who knew that this one would come true in my life
I knew the moment when you touched me
You touched me

You’re like a sudden breeze that blew in my life
A new face, a new smile, a new song
And now I know I wanted you in my life all along

I guess I must have saved an empty place in my heart
For you to come and fill this space in my heart
That long before I said I loved you, I love you

Whatever happens, this is true in my life
When all the springs have come and gone
Whatever dance I may go through in my life
You’ll always be somethin’ new in my life
From now on, yeah, yeah

I know there always will be you in my life
From now on, yeah, yeah

SECRET LOVE (CALAMITY JANE, 1953)

One of the memorable movie scene was from the film Calamity Jane when Doris Day as the titular lead sang to her heart's delight her one Secret Love. The theme won an Oscar for best original song.

SECRET LOVE
sung by: Doris Day

Once I had a secret love
That lived within the heart of me
All too soon my secret love
Became impatient to be free

So I told a friendly star
The way that dreamers often do
Just how wonderful you are
And why I am so in love with you

Now I shout it from the highest hills
Even told the golden daffodils

At last my heart's an open door
And my secret love's no secret anymore

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE (YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE, 1977)

"I learned something today, Pop. It was really painful, but I learned something. I learned that I have to depend on myself. I can't depend on anybody else and that's ok. You know why? Because I'm a really good person to depend on. Maybe I don't have someone that I thought I loved a lot really, but that's ok because I've got me. And I've got my work. And I've got my music. And I love that - more than anything else on this earth." - Laurie Robinson

The song's immense popularity led to the making of this motion picture drama that used 'You Light Up My Life' itself as the movie's title. Perhaps, Debby Boone's best and most recognized song ever. The song won an Oscar and Golden Globe for best original song and was nominated in the Grammys.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE
sung by: Debby Boone

So many nights I’d sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark, but now you’ve come along

And you (you) light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song

Rollin’ at sea, adrift on the waters
Could it be fin’lly I’m turnin’ for home
Fin’lly a chance to say, “Hey, I love you”
Never again to be all alone

’Cause you (you) light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song

’Cause you (you) light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days

And fill my nights with song
It can’t be wrong when it feels so right
‘Cause you light up my life

THE WAY WE WERE (THE WAY WE WERE, 1973)

"When you love someone, from Roosevelt to me, you go deaf, dumb and blind." - Hubbell Gardner

One of The Way We Were's tagline was 'Some memories last forever'. Indeed, but the movie offers more than itself and the team-up of Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford. The theme itself is enough to revisit this 1973 film. Haunting and melodic, Barbara Stresand is at her soulful best. The theme won the best original song in the Oscars, Golden Globe and the Grammys.

THE WAY WE WERE
sung by: Barbra Streisand

Mem’ries light the corners of my mind
Misty water color mem’ries of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were

Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me would be, could we?

Mem’ries may be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget

So it’s the laughter we will remember
Whenever we remember the way we were
The way we were

THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND (A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, 1992)

It was never in the actual movie soundtrack, but This Used To Be My Playground heard during the end credits is the song most associated with in the movie A League Of Their Own. Madonna sung the endearing ballad and made the movie more nostalgic while showing black and white montages.

THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND
sung by: Madonna

This used to be my playground (used to be)
This used to be my childhood dream
This used to be the place I ran to
Whenever I was in need
Of a friend
Why did it have to end
And why do they always say

Don’t look back
Keep your head held high
Don’t ask them why
Because life is short
And before you know
You’re feeling old
And your heart is breaking
Don’t hold on to the past
Well, that’s too much to ask

This used to be my playground (used to be)
This used to be my childhood dream
This used to be the place I ran to
Whenever I was in need
Of a friend
Why did it have to end
And why do they always say

Live and learn
Well the years they flew
And we never knew
We were foolish then
We would never tire
And that little fire
Is still alive in me
It will never go away
Can’t say goodbye to yesterday (can’t say goodbye)

This used to be my playground (used to be)
This used to be my childhood dream
This used to be the place I ran to
Whenever I was in need
Of a friend
Why did it have to end
And why do they always say

No regrets
But I wish that you
Were here with me
Well then there’s hope yet
I can see your face
In our secret place
You’re not just a memory
Say goodbye to yesterday (the dream)
Those are words I’ll never say (I’ll never say)

This used to be my playground (used to be)
This used to be our pride and joy
This used to be the place we ran to
That no one in the world could dare destroy

TO SIR, WITH LOVE (TO SIR WITH LOVE, 1967)

Sidney Poitier’s convincing turn as the schoolteacher helps give the movie To Sir, With Love its credibility and poignancy. Its very famous theme of the same title sung by Lulu adds some warmth. A classic feel-good movie.

TO SIR, WITH LOVE
sung by: Lulu

Those schoolgirl days, of telling tales and biting nails are gone
But in my mind, I know they will still live on and on
But how do you thank someone
Who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn’t easy, but I’ll try

If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky in letters
That would soar a thousand feet high
To Sir, with Love

The time has come
For closing books and long last looks must end
And as I leave
I know that I am leaving my best friend
A friend who taught me right from wrong
And weak from strong, that’s a lot to learn
What, what can I give you in return?

If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start
But I, would rather you let me give my heart
To Sir, with Love

COMING AROUND AGAIN (HEARTBURN, 1986)

"They thought it was love. It was really Heartburn." - tagline

Based on the real-life story of writer Nora Ephron’s marriage to Washington Journalist Carl Bernstein and the infidelity that comes between them. Stellar casting (Meryl Streep & Jack Nicholson) and great soundtrack. Carly Simon’s Coming Around Again at the beginning of the film is unforgettable. A nice fusion with the well-loved nursery song Itsy Bitsy Spider is heard at the end of the movie.

COMING AROUND AGAIN
sung by: Carly Simon

Baby sneezes
Mommy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
So bewildering

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart (broken heart)

Pay the grocer
You fix the toaster
You kiss the host goodbye
Then you break a window
Burn the souffle?
Scream the lullabye

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart

And I believe in love
But what else can I do
I’m so in love with you

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again
(Baby sneezes)
(Mommy pleases)
(Daddy breezes in)

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It will be comin' around again

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

I believe in love
Now who knows where or when
But it's comin' around again

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again

(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Comin' around again)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Down the rain came)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
Again, again…

I NEVER DREAMED SOMEONE LIKE YOU COULD LOVE SOMEONE LIKE ME (CARRIE, 1976)

"They're all gonna laugh at you...They're all gonna laugh at you..."

A well-made film based on the Stephen King bestseller. It's a story of a young woman who can move things with her mind. The Brian De Palma-helmed movie has often been considered a horror film and an ultimate teen revenge flick when in fact it's more of a study in human condition. Top-notch acting from all the actors especially Sissy Spacek as Carrie White. You actually feel for her. Katie Irving sung the well-loved theme during the prom scene.

I NEVER DREAMED SOMEONE LIKE YOU
COULD LOVE SOMEONE LIKE ME
sung by: Katie Irving

Could it be that the lady is me in the photograph?
I’m afraid ‘cause it feels too good and I want it too bad
It’s just not true, couldn’t ask for anymore than you

Because you look at me as though I’m beautiful
Could it be that you want me?
I never dreamed someone like you could want someone like me

I’m not sure but the more that it’s real, the more it’s right
Ooh, what a night, it’s as though we’ve been lovers all of our lives
There must be God, could it be that he’s heard me at last

Because you look at me as though I’m beautiful
Could it be the lady is me?
I never dreamed someone like you could want someone like me

All the pain and the pleasure’s the same, it goes so fast
I’m the girl with the strawberry hair in the photograph
So come on let’s dance, let me have it while I have a chance

‘Cause there’s another room where there are other girls
But tonight there’s only me
I never dreamed someone like you could want someone like me

THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE (ICE CASTLES, 1978)

"When Tragedy Struck, Love Came to the Rescue." - tagline

One of the most popular movie themes comes from the 1978 movie, Ice Castles. It tells of a young woman's dreams of becoming a champion skater but cut short due to a freak accident that causes her to become blind. The theme sung by the talented Melissa Manchester is well-played during the end credits. The film's score was heard during the opening sequence. Through The Eyes Of Love garnered major nominations that includes best original song in the Oscars, Golden Globe and the Grammys.

THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE
sung by: Melissa Manchester

Please don’t let this feeling end, It’s everything I am
Everything I wanna be, I can see what’s mine now
Finding out what’s true, Since I’ve found you
Lookin’ through the eyes of love

Now I can take the time, I can see my life
As it comes up shining now, Reachin’ out to touch you
I can feel so much, Since I’ve found you
Lookin’ through the eyes of love

And now I do believe
That even in a storm we’ll find some light
Knowin’ you’re beside me, I’m alright

Please don’t let this feeling end, It might not come again
And I want to remember, How it feels to touch you
How I feel so much, Since I’ve found you
Lookin’ through the eyes of love

Reaching out to touch you, I can feel so much
Since I’ve found you, Lookin’ through the eyes of love

TURN BACK TIME (SLIDING DOORS, 1998)

This little gem of a movie has an interesting premise. Sliding Doors is about a woman (Gwyneth Paltrow) living two possible lives at the same time. Turn Back Time sung by the then group Aqua is aptly used in the movie.

TURN BACK TIME
sung by: Aqua

Give me time to reason
Give me time to think it through

Passing through the season where I cheated you

I will always have a cross to wear
But the bolt reminds me I was there
So give me strength to face this test of mine

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night, for the night

Claim your right to science
Claim your right to see the truth
Though my conscience will drill a hole in you

I’ve seen it coming like a thief in the night
I’ve seen it coming from the flash of your light
So give me strength to face this test of mine

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back timeI would stay
The bolt reminds me I was there
The bolt reminds me I was there

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night, for the night

If only I could turn back time
If only I had said what I still hide
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night, for the night

If only I could (if only I could)
If only I could (if only I could)
If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night

If only I could (if only I could, if only I could)
If only I could (if only I could, if only I could)

If only I could turn back time
I would stay for the night
If only I could (if only I could, if only I could)
If only I could (if only I could, if only I could)
If only I could turn back time...

OVER THE RAINBOW (THE WIZARD OF OZ, 1939)

"Now I know I have a heart, because it's breaking." - Tin Woodsman

Classic in every sense of the word. The movie was based on a beloved children’s book and the theme has become a household name at the time of its release. Up until now, the theme never ceases to put a smile on anyone’s face. Timeless.

OVER THE RAINBOW
sung by: Judy Garland

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then oh why can’t I?
Oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly, beyond the rainbow,
Why oh why can’t I?

PART OF YOUR WORLD (THE LITTLE MERMAID, 1989)

"Ariel, will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where it belongs?" -Sebastian

Under The Sea may have earned and won an Oscar for best original song and Kiss The Girl a nomination but Part Of Your World sung by Jodi Benson is definitely not to be missed. The innocence and longing to be in some other’s place is wonderfully rendered in the song. One of the best Disney animation before CGI takes over.

PART OF YOUR WORLD
sung by: Jodi Benson

Look at this stuff, Isn’t it neat?
Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?
Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl
The girl who has ev’rything?

Look at this trove
Treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin’ around here you’d think
(Sure) she’s got everything

I’ve got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty
I’ve got whozits and whatzits galore
(You want thingamabobs? I got twenty)
But who cares?
No big deal, I want more

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see
Wanna see ‘em dancin’
Walkin’ around on those
(Whad’ya call ‘em?) oh - feet

Flippin’ your fins you don’t get too far
Legs are required for jumpin’, dancin’
Strollin’ along down a
(What’s that word again?) street

Up where they walk
Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin’ free
Wish I could be
Part of that world

What would I give
If I could live out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day
Warm on the sand?
Betcha on land
They understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women
Sick o’ swimmin’
Ready to stand
And ready to know what the people know
Ask ‘em my questions
And get some answers
What’s a fire and why does it
(What’s the word?) burn?

When’s it my turn?
Wouldn’t I love
Love to explore that shore above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world

SHE'S LIKE THE WIND (DIRTY DANCING, 1987)

"Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you." - Baby

A guilty pleasure and one of the popular dance movie in the '80's. Dirty Dancing is roaring with catchy tunes as well as ballads. Lead star Patrick Swayze not only lends his dancing skills but his voice as well and sung She's Like The Wind. Years has passed and Dirty Dancing is still in a league of its own.

SHE'S LIKE THE WIND
sung by: Patrick Swayze

She’s like the wind through my tree
She rides the night next to me
She leads me through moonlight
Only to burn me with the sun
She’s taken my heart
But she doesn’t know what she’s done
Feel her breath on my face
Her body close to me
Can’t look in her eyes
She’s out of my league

Just a fool to believe
I have anything she needs
She’s like the wind

I look in the mirror and all I see
Is a young old man with only a dream
Am I just fooling myself
That she’ll stop the pain
Living without her I’d go insane

Feel her breath on my face
Her body close to me
Can’t look in her eyes
She’s out of my league
Just a fool to believe
I have anything she needs
She’s like the wind

Feel your breath on my face
Your body close to me
Can’t look in your eyes
You’re out of my league

Just a fool to believe
(Just a fool to believe)
She’s like the wind
(Just a fool to believe)
Just a fool to believe
(She’s like the wind)
Just a fool to believe
(Just a fool to believe)
She’s like the wind
(Just a fool to believe)
Just a fool to believe
She’s like the wind
(Just a fool...)
(She’s like the wind)
(She’s like the wind)
(Just a fool...)
(She’s like the wind)
(Just a fool...)

NOBODY DOES IT BETTER (THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, 1977)

"The name's Bond. James Bond." - James Bond

A popular James Bond movie theme, Nobody Does It Better was sung by Carly Simon who also did other memorable movie tunes. In The Spy Who Loved Me, it was Roger Moore who dons the James Bond suit. The film is signature Bond, James Bond. And the theme is signature Simon, Carly Simon.

NOBODY DOES IT BETTER
sung by: Carly Simon

(And) Nobody does it better, Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you, Baby, you’re the best

I wasn’t lookin’, but somehow you found me
I tried to hide from your lovelight
But like heaven above me, the spy who loved me
Is keepin’ all my secrets safe tonight

And nobody does it better
Though sometimes I wish someone could
Nobody does it quite the way you do
Why’d you have to be so good?

The way that you hold me, Whenever you hold me
There’s some kind o’ magic inside you
That keeps me from runnin’, but just keep it comin’
How’d you learn to do the things you do?

(And) Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, baby, darlin’, you’re the best
Baby, you’re the best, baby, you’re the best…

UP WHERE WE BELONG (AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, 1982)

An interesting navy drama in the '80's has a memorable and satisfying theme. Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes lend their voices in the movie An Officer And A Gentleman starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger. The song won an Oscar for best original song. The ending lifts the viewers up.

UP WHERE WE BELONG
sung by: Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes

Who knows what tomorrow brings
In a world where few hearts survive
All I know is the way I feel
When it’s realI keep it alive

The road is long
There are mountains in the way
But we climb a step every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry
On a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Some hang on to used to be
Live their lives looking behind
When all we have is here and now
All our lives
Out there to find
The road is long
There are mountains in the way
But we climb a step every day
Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry
On a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Time goes by
No time to cry
Life’s you and I
Alive... today

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry
On a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow...
