LOVE SONG FOR A VAMPIRE (BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, 1992)

"I have crossed oceans of time to find you." - Dracula

For the nth time, the legendary tale of Vlad The Impaler a.k.a Dracula is given a new twist. Based on a classic bestseller by Bram Stoker, Director Francis Ford Coppola gave the compelling titular character a persona not shown on previous versions. Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics fame perfectly captures the pains and longings of an undead's feelings. Haunting.

LOVE SONG FOR A VAMPIRE
sung by: Annie Lennox

Come into these arms again
And lay your body down
The rhythm of this trembling heart
Is beating like a drum
It beats for you, it bleeds for you
It knows not how it sounds
For it is the drum of drums
It is the song of songs

Once I had the rarest rose
That ever deemed to bloom
Cruel winter chilled the bud
And stole my flower too soon
On loneliness, oh hopelessness
To search the end of time
For there is in all the world
No greater love than mine

Love o love o…still falls the rain
Love o love o… still falls the night
Love o love o…damned forever

Let me be the only one
To keep you from the cold
Mow the floor of heaven is laid
The stars are bright as gold
They shine for you, they shine for you
They burn for all to see
Come into these arms again
And set this spirit free

THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN (THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD, 1949)

"Yeah, J. Thaddeus, quite a lad. Speaking of fabulous characters, England has produced a bumper crop of them. But don't forget, over here in the colonies, we've managed to come up with a few of our own. How about Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed, Black Bart, Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone and, of course, the one and only Ichabod Crane. Old Ichy, if you recall, was the country schoolmaster dreamed up by Washington Irving. Oh, he had a way with the yarn, good Mr. Irving." - Narrator, Ichabod segment

This much-loved Disney Classic of a twin-bill is a perfect family viewing especially the latter on Halloween season. The second half of the animated The Adventures of Ichabod And Mr. Toad features the story of Ichabod Crane who went on the town of Sleepy Hollow where the dreaded Headless Horseman is feared to exist. The animation not also brims with excitement and great storyline but with catchy tunes such as the one sung by the late crooner Bing Crosby along with the Rhythmaires. A fun theme.

THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN
sung by: Bing Crosby And The Rhythmaires

BROM BONES:
When the spooks have a midnight jamboree
They break it up with fiendish glee
Ghosts are bad but the one that’s cursed
Is the Headless Horseman, he’s the worst

CHORUS:
That’s right, he’s a fright on Halloween night

BROM BONES:
But when he goes a joggin’ ‘cross the land
Holding his noggin in his hand
Demons take one look and groan
And hit the road for parts unknown

CHORUS:
Beware, take care, he rides alone

BROM BONES:
And there’s no spook like a spook that’s spurned

CHORUS:
They don’t like him and he’s really burned

BROM BONES:
He swears to the longest day he’s dead

TOGETHER:

He’ll show them that he can get a head

BROM BONES:
They say he’s tired of his flamin’ top
He’s got a yen to make a swap
So he rides one night each year
To find a head in the hollow here

CHORUS:
Now he likes them little, he likes them big
Part in the middle, or a wig
Black or white or even red

BROM BONES:
The Headless Horseman needs a head

TOGETHER:
With a hip, hip and a clippity-clop
He’s out looking for a top to chop

BROM BONES:
So don’t stop to figure out a plan
You can’t reason with a

TOGETHER:
Headless man

BROM BONES:
Now if you doubt this tale is so
I met that spook just a year ago
Now, I didn’t stop for a second look

But made for the bridge that spans the brook
For once you’ve crossed that bridge, my friend

CHORUS:
The ghost is through, his power ends

BROM BONES:
So when you’re riding home tonight
Make for the bridge with all your might
He’ll be down in the hollow there
He needs your headLook out, beware

TOGETHER:
With a hip, hip and a clippity-clop
He’s out looking for a head to swap
So don’t try to figure out a plan
You can’t reason with a headless man

MY FAIR SHARE (ONE ON ONE, 1977)

"There comes a time when love stops being a ball
and starts being a woman." - tagline

One of the best and popular song the duo Seals & Crofts has ever sung, My Fair Share is the theme from the 1977 movie that stars Robby Benson and Annette O'Toole. Robby plays Henry a highschool basketball star who struggles to be the best outside their town.

MY FAIR SHARE
sung by: Seals & Crofts

Lost, lost as a child’s first book
I must have arms to hold me
Lost without love and care
I must have my fair share

Fair, fair is a changing word
But fair is a honored promise
Justice if you’re still there
I will have my fair share

Justice seems a lady
Lay me down with justice in a long white gown
With the breath of love we can share

Share and sleep with me if you dare
Celebrate my fair share

Fair, fair is a changing word
But fair is a honored promise
Justice if you’re still there
I will have my fair share

Justice seems a lady
Lay me down with justice in a long white gown
With the breath of love we can share
Share and sleep with me if you dare
Celebrate my fair share

WHAT WOULD THEY SAY (THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE, 1976)

In the t.v. movie The Boy In The Plastic Bubble, John Travolta plays the titular lead who due to a rare immune disease was subjected inside a plastic bubble. Renowned singer Paul Williams sung the theme. Travolta also has his own version of the song. A bittersweet ballad.

WHAT WOULD THEY SAY
sung by: Paul Williams

What would they say, If we up and run away
From the worried crowd, And the worn-out city faces
Would they carry on and on
When they found out we were gone
Or would they let us go
Would they tag along or would they just…

Leave us alone, We’d live in the country
Leave us alone, We’d make it just fine
Happy in a one-room shack
And we’d not look back
Now would we?

What would they do, If they found out we were through
With the little lies, And the downtown aggravations
That we trade them away, For a quiet country day
That we had hoped to share
Would they try to find out where we were?

Leave us alone, We’d live in the country
Leave us alone, We’d make it just fine
Happy in a one-room shack
And we’d not look back
Now would we?

Leave us alone, We’d live in the country
Leave us alone, We’d make it just fine
Happy in a one-room shack
And we’d not look back
Now would we?
What would they say, If we up and ran away?

TRICK OF FATE (TRICK, 1999)

"A story about two guys trying to make it in the big city." - tagline

Trick is one treat of a movie. It's about Gabriel, an aspiring young gay writer of musicals who meets Mark on a subway, a stranger who turns out to be a stripper. Spending the night together, it resulted in something they dare not imagine. Trick Of Fate, the film's theme is memorable as played at the very end.

TRICK OF FATE
sung by: Valerie Pinkston

I never thought I’d find someone like you
Though in my every fantasy I saw you everyday
I thought there was no way - to make my dream come true

I always thought that I would be alone
Afraid to dream that anyone was ever gonna see
The love inside of me - but how could I have known

A trick of fate would bring us together
A trick of fate would alter our lives
We had to wait it seemed like forever
But never say never to a trick of fate

What were the chances I’d be here with you
That after all the lonely years of searching everywhere
I’d turn and you’d be there - from clear out of the blue

Our lives are in the hands of destiny
And though we try to take control
That’s not the way it goes - a higher power knows
How it’s supposed to be

A trick of fate brought us together
A trick of fate altered our lives
We had to wait it seemed like forever
But never say never to a trick of fate

And now, something has begun - something very new
And suddenly the future’s looking bright
Somehow when two hearts beat as one, fairy tales come true
And anything seems possible tonight

A trick of fate brought us together
A trick of fate altered our lives
We had to wait it seemed like forever
But never say never to a trick of fate

It just goes to show
That you never know
Where love’s gonna grow
It’s a trick of fate

PEOPLE ALONE (THE COMPETITION, 1980)

"If you're really in love...nothing's going to stand in your way."- tagline

One of the most played songs on the radio came from the movie The Competition. People Alone sung by Randy Crawford is the love theme that stars Richard Dreyfuss and Amy Irving who play classical pianists who ends up falling in love with each other during their piano competition. It's one of those 'watch-it-with-someone-you-love" flick. People Alone was nominated in the Oscars for best original song.

PEOPLE ALONE
sung by: Randy Crawford

Take me along
I don’t care where you have gone
And I don’t have to know
Exactly where you’re going

If you’ll leave me behind
Then everything on your mind
Will turn to picture of the world
We might have paint

People alone may go very fast
But maybe not so far
Playin’ alone means still solitaire
Remember
People alone may reach for a love
But only half as well
People alone may seem satisfied
How can they tell?

If we’re crossing the line
Where’s there’s no yours and no mine
We’ll find it easy to see
People should be together

People alone may go very fast
But maybe not so far
Playin’ alone means still solitaire
Remember

People alone may reach for a love
But only half as well
People alone may seem satisfied
How can they tell?

Take me along
Let’s not be people alone
I’m on your mind so please don’t leave me behind
Crossing the line
Where there’s no yours and no mine
Hmmm…

ALL OF MY LIFE (THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES, 1996)

"When my date takes me home and kisses me good night,
if I don't hear the philharmonic in my head, I dump him."
- Rose Morgan
A lesser known theme in The Mirror Has Two Faces soundtrack but nevertheless captures the essence of the film's story through the eyes of the lead Rose Morgan, played and directed by Barbra Streisand herself. The popular theme I Finally Found Someone, a duet with Bryan Adams takes the cake.

ALL OF MY LIFE
sung by: Barbra Streisand

I was alone
You were alone
Parallel lines that touched one another
Just feeling our way
Lost in the dark
Drawn to each other
So much to say, and so much to do
So much of you for me to discover
Like what makes you laugh
And what makes you cry
How does a friend become a lover, too?

I’ve waited all of my life to find
Someone who’d need my heart and read my mind
To light my days and warm my nights
Someone I know I could call
My someone for all my life

Looking at you, looking at me
Loving the look of love that I see there
I find when I look deep in your eyes
Reflections of me there

I’ve waited all of my life to find
Someone who’d need my heart and read my mind
To light my days and warm my nights
Now all at once in your arms

Everything’s new
All that I feel, tells me it’s true
All that I ask
Is all of my life... with you

HOW DO YOU KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING (BEST FRIENDS, 1982)

In 1982, Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds team-up for the movie Best Friends. It's about the long time couple's struggle to keep the flame alive the moment they got married with hilarious results. Balladeers James Ingram and Patti Austin sung the theme that outlasted the movie itself. The song has become more memorable and generated a cult following through radio plays. It also has become an athem of sort for the hopeless romantics. The song has been nominated in the Oscars.

HOW DO YOU KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING
sung by: James Ingram & Patti Austin

How do you keep the music playing
How do you make it last
How do you keep the song from fading
Too fast

How do you lose yourself to someone
And never lose your way
How do you not run out of new things
To say

And since we know we’re always changing
How can it be the same
And tell me how year after year, you’re sure your heart will fall apart
Each time you hear his name

I know the way I feel for you it’s now or never
The more I love, the more that I’m afraid
That in your arms I may not see forever
Forever

If we can be the best of lovers
Yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better as it grows
With any luck, then I suppose the music never ends

I know (How do you keep the music playing)
The way I feel for you, it’s now or never
(How do you make it last)
The more I love, the more that I’m afraid

(How do you keep the song from fading)
That in your arms I may not see forever
(Keep the song from fading too fast)
Forever

If we can be the best of lovers
Yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better as it grows
With any luck, then I suppose the music never ends

How do you keep it playing it, baby, oh... (ohh...)
I wanna how do you do it, how do you keep the music playing
Over and over (over)
Do you keep the song from fading (ooh…)
How (da da da) baby (da da da)
Keep it playin’ over and over again (mmm…)
I wanna know how do you, baby
How (How), oh, tell me, darling
I wanna know how do you keep the music playing

GOODBYE GIRL (NEIL SIMON'S THE GOODBYE GIRL, 1977)

"I thought you said you were decent." - Paula McFadden
"I am decent. I also happen to be naked." - Elliot Garfield

My favorite romcom film of all time, Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl has a winning formula. A great chemistry between the two leads & even the supporting cast and definitely its sparkling screenplay by Neil Simon. Paula McFadden (Marsha Mason) and Elliot Garfield (Richard Dreyfuss) play an individual, her with a daughter to raise and him with a career to make, who forced to become roommates. The battle of the sexes ensues between the two until they find themselves falling in love. David Gates of the group Bread sung the feel-good theme.

The ending is a knockout for the hopeless romantics.

GOODBYE GIRL
sung by: David Gates

All your life you've waited for love to come and stay
And now that I have found you, you must not slip away
I know it's hard believin' the words you've heard before
But darlin' you must trust them just once more

'Cause baby Goodbye doesn't mean forever
Let me tell you goodbye doesn't mean
We'll never be together again
If you wake up and I'm not there
I won't be long away
'Cause the things you do my Goodbye Girl
Will bring me back toyou

I know you've been taken, afraid to hurt again
You fight the love you feel for me instead of givin' in
But I can wait forever, for helpin' you to see
That I was meant for you and you for me

So remember Goodbye doesn't mean forever
Let me tell you goodbye doesn't mean
We'll never be together again
Though we may be so far apart you still will have my heart
So forget your past my Goodbye Girl
'Cause now you're home at last

MAKING LOVE (MAKING LOVE, 1982)

A controversial film during its release, Making Love is a love story about a successful married couple and a man that comes between them. The one who falls for the man is the husband. Roberta Flack, a famous singer at that time, sung the melodic theme. It was nominated for best original song in the Golden Globe.

MAKING LOVE
sung by: Roberta Flack

Here, close to our feelings
We touch again, we love again
Remember when we thought
Our hearts would never mend
And we’re all there better for each other

There’s more to love I know
Than making love

Here, no more confusion
We see our lives, we live our lives
Remember when we thought
We never would survive
But now neither one of us is breaking

There’s more to love I know
Than making love

Some things never change
Some things sometimes do

And now I’m feeling strong enough to let you in
And now neither one of us is breaking

Now we know there’s more to love
Than making love

And I’ll remember you
And making love

And I’ll remember
And I’ll remember
And I’ll remember
And I’ll remember

MOMENT BY MOMENT (MOMENT BY MOMENT, 1978)

One the unusual love story in the '70's came from the movie Moment By Moment. Hollywood has done a many May-December affairs story but the said film has something going that makes it unique. Arguably, the infamous casting of the leads (John Travolta and Lily Tomlin). No matter, the film came up with a memorable theme sung by Yvonne Elliman of the same name.

MOMENT BY MOMENT
sung by: Yvonne Elliman

Though our love is like a winding road
Of uncertainty
I long to trust your smile and all the ways you feel
Touching me

From moment, (moment) by moment
A lifetime goes on
Till one day our somedays are gone

Look at us, two drifters we will drift
Scared to see it through
But we’re so happy now
It might be beautiful if we do

From moment (moment) by moment
The choices we make
Depend on the chances we take
From moment, (moment) by moment
Our lifetime goes on
Till one day our somedays are gone

From moment (moment) by moment
The choices we make
Depend on the chances we take

From moment, (moment) by moment
A lifetime goes on
Till one day our somedays are gone

From moment, (moment) by moment
Our lifetime goes on
Till one day our somedays are gone

WHEN SHE LOVED ME (TOY STORY 2, 1999)

"You never forget kids like Emily, or Andy, but they forget you." - Jessie

Perhaps, the most heartbreaking theme from Disney and Pixar in recent years came from the 1999 sequel of the hugely successful Toy Story. In the song When She Loved Me, Jessie (Woody's female counterpart) sung the time when she was being loved by her child owner Emily. Earthly-voiced singer Sarah McLachlan wonderfully rendered the song. The theme was nominated for best original song in the Oscars.

WHEN SHE LOVED ME
sung by: Sarah McLachlan

When somebody loved me
Everything was beautiful
Every hour we spent together
Lives within my heart
And when she was sad
I was there to dry her tears
And when she was happy
So was I
When she loved me

Through the summer and the fall
We had each other, that was all
Just she and I together
Like it was meant to be
And when she was lonely
I was there to comfort her
And I knew that she loved me
So the years went by
I stayed the same
But she began to drift away
I was left alone
Still I waited for the day
When she'd say
I will always love you

Lonely and forgotten
I'd never thought she'd look my way
And she smiled at me
And held me just like she used to do
Like she loved me
When she loved me

When somebody loved me
Everything was beautiful
Every hour we spent together
Lives within my heart
When she loved me

ELEVATION (LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER, 2001)

"So, time to save the universe again then, is it?" - Bryce
"Absolutely." - Lara Croft

Angelina Jolie dons the famed videogame character Lara Croft in an entertaining film that arguably rivals Indy Jones. Band icon U2 sung the theme Elevation.

ELEVATION
sung by: U2

High, higher than the sun
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here

A corner of your lips
Is the orbit of your hips
Eclipse
You elevate my soul
I’ve got no self control
Been living like a mole now
Going down, excavation

Higher now, in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high
Elevation

A star
Lit up like a cigar
Strung out like a guitar
Maybe you can educate my mind

Explain all these controls
Can’t sing but I’ve got soul
The goal is elevation

A mole
Digging in a hole
Digging up my soul now
Going down, excavation

Higher now
In the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high
Elevation

Love
Lift me out of these blues
Won’t you tell me something true
I believe in you
A mole
Digging in a hole
Digging up my soul now
Going down, excavation

Higher now
In the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high
Elevation

Elevation
Elevation
Elevation
Elevation

LAST DANCE (THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY, 1978)

'70's Diva Donna Summer sung the very danceable theme Last Dance in the movie Thank God It's Friday. She plays Nicole who dreams of becoming a disco star. A fun movie to say the least with basically no plot to speak of. The theme won an Oscar and Golden Globe for best original song.

LAST DANCE
sung by: Donna Summer

Last dance
Last chance for love
Yes, it’s my last chance
Romance tonight

I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
’Cause when I’m bad
I’m so, so bad

So let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, this last dance tonight
Last dance, last dance for love
Yes, it’s my last chance
Romance tonight
Oh, I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
’Cause when I’m bad
I’m so, so bad

So let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance tonight
Yeah, will you be my Mr. Right?

Can you fill my appetite?
I can’t be sure
That you’re the one for me
But all that I ask
Is that you dance with me
Dance with me, dance with me, yeah

Oh I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
’Cause when I’m bad
I’m so, so bad

So let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, the last dance tonight

Oh I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
When I’m bad, scold me
‘Cause when I’m bad
I’m so, so bad

So, come on baby, dance that dance
Come on baby, dance that dance
Come on baby, let’s dance tonight

SOMEWHERE I BELONG (D.A.R.Y.L., 1985)

"Becoming human was not part of the plan.
Now they want to terminate him." - tagline

I remember watching D.A.R.Y.L. during my childhood days and how was I entertained by the movie. The film is a mixture of fantasy and family drama. Teddy Pendergrass has come up with a wonderful theme that supports the film's warmth yet exciting feel. By the way, the title refers to for Data Analysing Robot Youth Lifeform.

SOMEWHERE I BELONG
sung by: Teddy Pendergrass

Where I’m going?
I’ve been lost so long
There’s no shelter from the cold
Winds are blowing
I keep dreaming on
Waking up in emptiness alone
I know

Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I can call, my home
Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
That your love is leading me home

How’d you find me?
Pull me from the storm
Make the heartache disappear
Feel the fire
Love can keep us warm
I just can’t believe
I’m finally here
I am here, I am here

Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I can call, my home
Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
That your love is leading me home
Somewhere I belong

Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
I’ve got the feeling
That your love, is leading me home
Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I can call, my home
Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
That your love is leading me home
Somewhere I belong
Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
I’ve got the feeling
That your love, is leading me home
Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I belong
Somewhere I can call, my home
Open your heart to me
I’ve got the feeling
That your love is leading me home
Somewhere I belong…

BABY MINE (DUMBO, 1941)

One of the beloved Disney animation from the bygone era stars an elephant with humongous ears named Dumbo. Life for Dumbo wasn't very easy for he was being ridiculed because of his ears until he learns what he can do about it. It's heartrending to say least watching Dumbo along with the other Disney classic Bambi. Baby Mine becomes associated with everything maternal that were evident in today's movies, tv's and even commercials. The theme was nominated in the Oscars back then.

BABY MINE
sung by: Betty Noyes
(uncredited)

Baby mine, don’t you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine

Little one when you play
Don’t you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine

If they knew sweet little you
They’d end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they’d give just for
The right to hold you

From your head to your toes
You’re not much, goodness knows
But you’re so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine

NEED TO BE NEXT TO YOU (BOUNCE, 2000)

Then-estranged couple Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck starred in the romantic drama Bounce about fate in the most unexpected situation. They met, fall in love and then the truth suddenly resurface putting their love on the line. Leigh Nash of the former band Sixpence None The Richer sung the theme Need To Be Next To You, a nice ballad accompanied by the film's genre.

NEED TO BE NEXT TO YOU
sung by: Leigh Nash

Been running from these feelings for so long
Telling my heart I didn’t mean it
Pretending I was better off alone
But I know that it’s just a lie
So afraid to take a chance again
So afraid of what I feel inside
But I need to be next to you
(Need to be next to you)
oh I oh I
I need to share every breath with you
(Share every breath with you)
oh I oh I
I need to know I can see you smile each morning
Look into your eyes each night
For the rest of my life
Here with you near with you oh I
I need to be next to you
Need to be next to you

Right here with you is right where I belong
I lose my mind if I can’t see you
Without you there’s nothing in this life
That would make life worth living for
I can’t bear the thought of you not there
I can’t fight what I feel anymore

'Cause I need to be next to you
(Need to be next to you)
oh I oh I
I need to share every breath with you
(Share every breath with you)
oh I oh I
I need to know I can see you smile each morning
Look into your eyes each night
For the rest of my life
Here with you near with you oh I
I need to be next to you

I need to have you right next to mine
For all time
Hold you for all my life
I need to be next to you
I need to be next to you
Oh I Oh I
Need to be, need to be next to you
Share every breath with you
I need to feel you in my arms babe
In my arms babe
I need to be next to you

GOT TO BELIEVE IN MAGIC (ZAPPED!, 1982)

Zapped! may be cheesy but nevertheless has come up with the very memorable movie themes that outshine the film itself. Great balladeer David Pomeranz lends his voice twice in the movie and one of the songs featured is Got To Believe In Magic. The song grew up to be one of most played on the radio during the '80's up until now. The popular theme has been covered many times by local artists.

GOT TO BELIEVE IN MAGIC
sung by: David Pomeranz

Take me to your heart
Show me where to start
Let me play the part of your first love
All the stars are right
Ev’ry wish is ours tonight, my love
Pity those who wait
Trust in love to faith
Findin’ out too late that they've lost it
Never letting go
They will never know the ways of love

Got to believe in magic
Tell me how two people find each other
In a world that’s full of strangers
You’ve got to believe in magic
Somethin’ stronger than the moon above
‘Cause it’s magic when two people fall in love

I may never know
Why I need you so
All I need to know is this feeling
Handle it with care
We were born to share this dream, my love

Got to believe in magic
Tell me how two people find each other
In a world that’s full of strangers
You’ve got to believe in magic
Somethin’ stronger than the moon above
‘Cause it’s magic when two people fall in love

(INSTRUMENTAL)

Got to believe in magic
Tell me how two people find each other
In a world that’s full of strangers
You’ve got to believe in magic
Somethin’ stronger than the moon above
‘Cause it’s magic when two people fall in love

FINDING OUT THE HARD WAY (STAYING ALIVE, 1983)

Though it pales much in comparison to the now classic Saturday Night Fever, its sequel Staying Alive still provides great soundtrack. One of which is the ballad Finding Out The Hard Way sung by one of the stars of the movie itself, Cynthia Rhodes wherein she acts, dances and sings. Hers was one of the great vocals during the ’80’s.

FINDING OUT THE HARD WAY
sung by: Cynthia Rhodes

I can’t take all the blame, now can I
It takes more than one to lose
Such a fine line
That lies between but holds together
I turn to night, turn to the time

Whoa, whoa, and I’m findin’ out the hard way
It’s gonna take some tears, little bit of heartache
We’re like islands in the stream
Watchin’ all our dreams start to fade, fadin’ away

A moment gone is gone forever
It’s like water through the hands
And you spin the wheel of misfortune
Watching the time, we’re livin’ in love

No, better find another hallway
It’s gonna take some tears, a little bit of heartache
We’re like islands in the stream
Watchin’ all our dreams start to fade, fadin’ away

I keep reachin’ out, come up empty handed
Didn’t I let you down or did I leave you stranded

And I’m findin’ out the hard way
It’s gonna take some tears, little bit of heartache
We’re like islands in the stream
Watchin’ all our dreams start to fade, fadin’ away

Oh, and I’m findin’ out the hard way
It’s gonna take some tears, a little bit of heartache
We’re like islands in the stream
Watchin’ all our dreams start to fade, fadin’ away

Start to fade, fadin’ away
Start to fade, fadin’ away
Fade away

LIVE TO TELL (AT CLOSE RANGE, 1986)

Yet another Madonna-sung themed during the ‘80’s from the movie At Close Range that starred her then-partner Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. Based on the true story of Bruce Johnston Sr., about the crime that bonds between a father and his sons. The wonderfully composed ballad Live To Tell became one of Queen Of Pop’s biggest hits.

LIVE TO TELL
sung by: Madonna

I have a tale to tell

Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall

A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me

I know where beauty lives
I’ve seen it once, I know the warm she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can’t take that from me

A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me

The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again

If I ran away, I’d never have the strength
To go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
How will they hear
When will they learn
How will they know

A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again

LONG AS WE BELIEVE (FAST FORWARD, 1985)

Actor Sidney Poitier directed the 1985 film Fast Forward, about eight young dancers from Ohio trying to make it big as professional dancers by joining a major competition. Though directed by the legendary actor, the film was less known than those other dance movies that were shown during the ‘80’s. Siedah Garrett and David Swanson provided the vocals for the ballad Long As We Believe.

LONG AS WE BELIEVE
sung by: Siedah Garrett & David Swanson

Time makes victims of us all
A window down the hall
Opens the past and fading fast
What used to be

You and me, as long as we hold on
To each other we’ll be strong
There’s no doubt about it
We’re destined to belong

Long as we believe
Love begins with dreaming
Never letting go of what we know
Long as we believe
Love can lasts forever
And together we can conquer all
We will never fall
As long as we believe

Space, a pris’ner of the line
Brings images to mind
That can be ours to close
A cannonball to fly

Soaring, as long as we hold on
To each other we’ll be strong
There’s no doubt about it
We’re destined to belong

Long as we believe
Love begins with dreaming
Never letting go of what we know
Long as we believe
Love can lasts forever
And together we can conquer all
We will never fall
As long as we believe

Oh, we have to just believe

Long as we believe (just believe)
Love can lasts forever (lasts forever)
And together we can conquer all (we can conquer all)
Long as we believe (long as we believe)
Love begins with dreaming (all you gotta do is believe)
Never letting go of what we know
Long as we believe (long as we believe)
Love can lasts forever
And together we can conquer all
Long as we believe

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, 1981)

The only James Bond theme that had the singer appear during the opening credits. Sheena Easton at her prime sung one of 007's famous themes. It also became one of her signature songs. The song were both nominated as best original song in the Oscars and the Golden Globe.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
sung by: Sheena Easton

For your eyes only
Can see me through the night
For your eyes only
I never need to hide
You can see so much in me
So much in me that's new
I never felt until I looked at you

For your eyes only
Only for you
You see what no one else can see
Now I'm breaking free
For your eyes only
Only for you
The love I know you need in me
The fantasy you freed in me
Only for you
Only for you

For your eyes only
The nights are never cold
You really knew me
That's all I need to know
Maybe I'm an open book
Because I know your mind
But you won't need
To read between the lines

For your eyes only
Only for you
You see what no one else can see
Now I'm breaking free
For your eyes only
Only for you
The love I know you need in me
The passions that collide in me
The wild abandoned side of me
Only for you
For your eyes only

FOR THE FIRST TIME (ONE FINE DAY, 1996)

One Fine Day is such a fine movie that the theme sung by Kenny Loggins were well-used and a fine song too during one of the film's 'finest' moments. They play their parts very well as single parents who met and eventually fall in love during 'one fine day.'

FOR THE FIRST TIME
sung by: Kenny Loggins

Are those your eyes?
Is that your smile?
I been looking at you for ever
Yet I never saw you before

Are these your hands?
Holding mine?
Now I wonder how
I could have been so blind

And for the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the first time
I'm seeing who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is...For the first time

Can this be real?
Can this be true?
Am I the person I was this morning?
And are you the same you?
It's all so strange
How can it be?
All along this love was right in front of me

And for the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the first time
I am seeing who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is...For the first time
Such a long time ago
I had given up on finding this emotion
Ever again
But you're here with me now
Yes I found you somehow
And I've never been so sure
For the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the first time
I'm seeing who you are
Can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is...For the first time

For the first time
